Welcome to Don Read's Website

Don Read managed Sir John Dankworth’s big band for six years from the age of 22. During a sixty year journey which has taken him from Bradford school boy to Nottinghamshire poet and lyricist, Don Read has amassed an eclectic mix of songs, stories, articles and poems. Sometimes heart-warming, often downright daft, but all written from his own unique perspective.

From sensitive Lyrics for Classics to the eyebrow-raising stories of the 1950's Jazz scene, whoever you are, there's something here to entertain, amuse or provoke your thoughts.

I am very grateful to my son Robert and his wife Ibolya for their patience and dedication in compiling  the material for this website.  Don Read April 2014
